From a lot of the bad stuff he’s seen, Madigan generally wants to make the world a bit better. At the same time he holds the world in contempt for what happened to Alyss. He’s realized that he has to do anything to survive, even kill. His ends justify his means.
He also occasionally has bipolar tendencies, switching from peaceful to violent in the blink of an eye.
“Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
Flagg has the gift of the silver tongue, he will try and talk his way out of most situations and avoid conflict… Unless of course the odds are in his favor.
He generally changes his appearance to suit his mood but doesn’t mind changing faces to coerce people.
Madigan knows nothing about his ancestry, he was left near the orphanage when he was just a baby with nothing but a name on the basket and a fine chain with some sort of symbol he took on as his family crest. Growing up in the orphanage in Dar ‘nath he was hardly a sheltered child, being exposed at a young age to the violence and corruption of the streets.
He grew aware of his changeling abilities at 8 years old, accidentaly mimicking the elf ears of one of the other children in the orphanage. Madigan didn’t even know he copied the boys ears until the other kids started making fun of him. Over the course of the next 5 years he began experimenting with his ability, getting control over it so he could mimick a particular trait.
His only friend as a young boy and eventually a teenager was a human girl named Alyss. She was two years younger than him and was prone to getting ill. But she was nicer than all the others, she never made fun of him, in fact she enjoyed his shapeshifting abilities because they always brought a smile to her face. So Madigan nurtured her, taking the role of her big brother.
When he became old enough to leave the orphanage Madigan didn’t go far. Instead he worked at the docks to make enough of a wage for a small apartment that he shared with Alyss once she grew old enough to leave. She occasionaly worked at the orphanage, reading to the children. It was Madigan however who made most of the money. He eventually proposed to Alyss though they were both young and had little money. So they saved up for a wedding and planned to travel to a distant town away from the sea.
They never got married however. Madigan returned home one evening to find his home ran-sacked and Alyss bleeding out. He held her as she passed on and swore vengeance on the vagrants who killed her.
He left the house, left her, left his whole life behind, searching the streets of Dar ‘nath under cover of just another cutthroat he found information and learned new skills. He found the men who had killed Alyss, his plans were to kill their families as they did to him.
But he couldn’t do it. Sure he slaughtered the two men responsible but he couldn’t bring himself to murder the innocent. So he exiled himself from his town, for he could hardly call it a home, and ventured west to do what he could so that no other man had to face the pain he fealt each day.
